Campaigns and Issues:
Mottram-Tintwistle bypass
CPRE NW is part of a coalition of environmental organisations opposing the proposed Mottram-Tintwistle bypass at public inquiry. This bypass, and the linked Glossop Spur, run through both the Greater Manchester Green Belt and the Peak District National Park.
The inquiry is currently adjourned indefinitely due to errors in the Highways Agency's evidence. Despite having discovered critical errors in their own calculations requiring their evidence to be resubmitted four times, the Highways Agency have refused to withdraw the scheme or to consider other alternatives, including implementing safety measures with immediate effect.
The inquiry is not expected to resume before May 2008.
