CPRE Cheshire Homepage
CPRE are the champions of England's countryside, promoting the beauty, tranquillity and diversity of rural England by encouraging the sustainable use of land and other natural resources in town and country. We are a registered charity with over 60,000 members and supporters living in our cities, towns, villages and the countryside, including nearly 9,000 in the North West.

CPRE North West Regional Group is made up of CPRE Cheshire, CPRE Lancashire, and CPRE Cumbria (Friends of the Lake District), and has 30 local district groups. The regional group was established to engage specifically with region-wide issues, and to influence the increasingly important policies of regional bodies such as the Regional Assembly and Regional Development Agencies.

The group is led by a steering committee, drawn from volunteer representatives of the three county branches. This committee decides upon and directs all work done by and for the regional group.

The group has a paid Regional Policy Officer (RPO), who co-ordinates regional policy and campaigns work. He is supported in this work by a team of volunteers who provide specific expertise, detailed local knowledge and information, and wide-ranging experience.

We are members of North West Environment Link, the network for environmental NGOs in the North West. Through NWEL we have seats on the Regional Assembly and its Review and Scrutiny, Planning and Transport Groups, through which we are able to influence the development of regional policy in order to ensure a sustainable countryside that can be enjoyed by all.

There are three county branches in the North West region, covering Cumbria, Lancashire and Cheshire. The conurbations of Greater Manchester and Liverpool are both partially covered by the Cheshire and Lancashire branches. Cheshire and Lancashire branches also have local district groups, which correspond to Local Authority areas in those counties, and whose details can be found on the branch websites.

County branches and district groups run their own campaigns and activities specific to their local areas. Please contact them direct in order to find out more or to join your local branch.
